Three hours for your practice · monthly
A collegial afternoon run by the non-profit association CMD & Scoliosis Network Switzerland with a single goal: afterwards, you should be able to decide within a few minutes in your own consultations whether the patient in front of you is a CMD patient — and when you should precisely not be thinking of CMD.
The course is held in German.
What this is about
In your consultations as in ours, we see patients with persistent head or facial pain, tinnitus, ear pressure and dizziness, stubborn neck and back problems or postural abnormalities, often with a long history and without any tangible findings.
Craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD) is one such interface. It lies between internal medicine, ENT, orthopaedics and dentistry, and is therefore easily overlooked in everyday practice. As a non-profit association, we would like to help close this gap for our shared patient group to some extent, with a practical, collegial CME session.
You can explicitly start with no prior knowledge at all. Your own cases are welcome.
General internal medicine (AIM): chronic head/facial pain and cases in which treatment options seem “exhausted”.
ENT (ORL): tinnitus, ear pressure and dizziness with unremarkable findings.
Orthopaedics: treatment-resistant neck/back problems, functional leg length discrepancy and posture along the jaw–spine axis.
The connection between the jaw system and posture, scoliosis or leg length discrepancy is predominantly a clinical hypothesis and is labelled as such in the course, not as a proven cause. We do not disparage other specialties or methods, we do not treat, and we promise no cure.
Who it is for
The series is aimed at general practitioners (AIM), ENT specialists (ORL) and orthopaedic specialists. Healthcare professionals from neurology, pain therapy, physiotherapy and dentistry are also welcome.
The structure
No multi-part curriculum that you have to complete before it becomes useful. Three hours, monthly, each session self-contained. You can come in October or in March, and you can come just once.
What the jaw system is and what CMD really means. The three symptom clusters and why head, ear and neck belong together. Starting from zero prior knowledge.
The core of the afternoon: three questions, four manual tests, measuring mouth opening. Can be carried out in under five minutes. Practised live, in pairs on your neighbour — not just demonstrated.
Red flags and differential diagnoses, with giant cell arteritis as the most important mimic. Then: when and where to refer, and what belongs in a good referral.
After the course
That is why two offers from the association are part of this afternoon. Both voluntary, both free of charge.
The association maintains a public directory of healthcare professionals with a focus on CMD, searchable by location and specialty. Anyone who has a suspicion after the course will find a point of contact within reach there.
And if you would like to see and care for CMD patients yourself, we will include you in the directory. Then colleagues and people affected will find their way to you. That is the purpose of the network: short paths between disciplines instead of an odyssey for the patient.
The concept is not finished. That is not a shortcoming, but the state of affairs in a field in which much is still hypothesis. We are looking for people who would like to contribute:
in the study group, which records and evaluates case histories in a structured way · in the further development of the curriculum for the upcoming courses · as a speaker in your own specialty.
Tell us at the end of the course or write to kontakt@cmd-skoliose-verein.ch. No obligation, no requirement other than interest.
Dates
Every date is the same course and self-contained. There is no sequence and no prerequisite. You come once, and afterwards you can screen.

Venue & times
On the premises of the CMD-KLINIK, Wollerau (SZ). With more than ten registrations, the course takes place at Restaurant Erlenmoos (up to 100 people).
The final venue will be communicated with the registration confirmation.
14:00 to 17:00, always on a Thursday. One break, no lunch — the afternoon fits into a practice day.
Practical, collegial and with time for questions. You are welcome to bring your own cases.
Recognition & organiser
SGOT: 3 Credits for this three-hour event.
In all other specialties, the event can be counted as extended continuing education (erweiterte Fortbildung).
Only what has been confirmed is listed. Applications to further specialist societies for the new three-hour format are under way and will only appear here once they have been confirmed.
The organiser is the non-profit association CMD & Scoliosis Network Switzerland. The income goes to the association and serves its purpose: education, access and research.
The course content is balanced and non-promotional (CME independence).
